LegacyFolio Privacy Policy
Summary
We designed LegacyFolio to work without collecting personal information. This privacy policy explains how and why we collect, use, disclose, and retain personal information in connection with LegacyFolio installed on iOS and macOS devices and through our website at legacyfolioapp.com.
No Data Collection Through App
LegacyFolio does not collect users’ personal information in the normal course of use. You are not required to have an account with us. LegacyFolio does not run advertising or analytics.
LegacyFolio does not store your information on our servers. The information, photos, and documents you record in LegacyFolio, and the Folios you create, stay on your own devices. If you choose, LegacyFolio uses your personal iCloud storage to keep your data synchronized across your Apple devices; that data is stored in your own iCloud account, not with us.
Your Folio
A Folio is a password-protected PDF that LegacyFolio creates on your device. You control the password and decide whether, when, and with whom to share the Folio and its password. We do not have a copy of your Folio or your password, and we cannot recover a lost password.
Purchases
If you purchase a paid license for LegacyFolio, the transaction is processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple may collect and use personal information to process payments, manage purchases, prevent fraud, and comply with legal obligations, and for other purposes explained in Apple's privacy information. We do not receive your payment details (e.g., credit card number). Depending on Apple’s systems, we may receive limited purchase-related signals needed to unlock features (for example, purchase status/entitlement information). For details on Apple’s data practices, review Apple’s privacy information and App Store terms.
Beta Testers
If you are invited to test a beta version of LegacyFolio, then you may voluntarily provide us with suggestions for fixes and improvements to LegacyFolio, and you may provide us with crash logs or diagnostic information through Apple's TestFlight (in accordance with your TestFlight settings). You consent to our use of your suggestions, information, and data to troubleshoot, fix, and improve LegacyFolio, and we will solely own all intellectual property we create based on your suggestions, information, and data.
Support Communications
If you voluntarily contact us by email for technical support regarding your use of LegacyFolio, you may voluntarily provide us with your relevant personal information — such as your email address, your name (if you include it), the content of your message, and the diagnostic information you choose to share (e.g., screenshots and diagnostic reports). You may not provide us with any sensitive or confidential information in connection with any support communications. By providing us with information in connection with a technical support communication, you acknowledge that we may use the information to respond to you, diagnose and troubleshoot issues, communicate about fixes or workarounds, improve LegacyFolio and our technical support generally, and maintain reasonable records of support communications. We do not use technical support information for advertising or marketing purposes unless you explicitly ask to be contacted for that purpose.
Our Website - legacyfolioapp.com
We do not run advertising or analytics on our website, and we do not set cookies. Our website is hosted by Netlify, which processes limited technical information necessary to deliver the site to you, such as your IP address, browser type, and the time of your request.
Legal Basis for Processing
If you are located in a jurisdiction that requires a legal basis for processing personal information (including the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom), we rely on the following legal bases:
- Consent: where you voluntarily provide information to us, including information submitted through beta testing programs and support requests.
- Legitimate Interests: to respond to support inquiries, diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, maintain records of support communications, improve LegacyFolio, protect the security and integrity of our services, and defend or establish legal claims, provided that the legitimate interests are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
- Legal Obligations: where processing is necessary to comply with applicable law, court orders, or lawful requests from public authorities.
Selling / Sharing of Personal Information
We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information with third parties except if required by law, or to protect our rights and users (e.g., fraud/security), or if you explicitly request or consent to sharing.
Data Retention and Processing Location
We keep records of support communications only as long as reasonably necessary to address the support issue and for reasonable record-keeping and legal compliance purposes, then we delete the records or anonymize them where feasible.
We are located in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and we process and store personal information in Canada and the United States of America. If you are located outside Canada, including in the United States of America, European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, any personal information you provide to us through support communications or beta testing may be transferred to and processed in Canada and the United States of America. By voluntarily providing personal information to us, you acknowledge that the information may be processed in Canada and the United States of America, which may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction.
Your Choices and Rights
You can use LegacyFolio without providing personal information to us. If you provide personal information to us, you may have certain rights under applicable privacy laws, including the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you;
- request correction or rectification of inaccurate personal information we hold about you;
- request deletion or erasure of your personal information we hold about you;
- request a copy of your personal information we hold about you in a portable format, where applicable;
- object to or restrict certain personal information processing activities;
- withdraw consent where our processing of your personal information is based on consent (without affecting the lawfulness of processing that occurred before withdrawal).
To exercise any of those rights, contact us at privacy@legacyfolioapp.com. We may request information necessary to verify your identity before responding to a request.
Complaints
If you have concerns about how we process your personal information, we encourage you to contact us first so that we can attempt to resolve your concerns. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection or supervisory authority.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect any personal information you send us. No method of information transmission or storage is 100% secure.
Children’s Privacy
LegacyFolio is not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at privacy@legacyfolioapp.com.
Changes to this Policy
We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. Our collection, use, disclosure, and retention of personal information will be governed by the version of this Policy in effect at that time. It is your responsibility to ensure that you read, understand, and accept the latest version of this Policy. If we make changes to this Policy, we will update the “Last Updated” above and post the changed policy at https://legacyfolioapp.com/privacy.html.
